Dental Care During Pregnancy
Healthy gums matter for a healthy pregnancy — and care is safe.
Dental Care During Pregnancy
Yes, you should keep your dental visits
Pregnancy hormones make gums more prone to swelling, tenderness, and bleeding — so-called pregnancy gingivitis affects most expectant mothers to some degree. Routine cleanings and exams during pregnancy are safe, recommended, and one of the simplest things you can do for both of you.
Tell us how far along you are when you book. We’ll tailor your positioning for comfort, time treatment for the second trimester when possible, and defer anything elective that can wait.
- Cleanings and checkups are pregnancy-safe
- Second trimester is the most comfortable window
- Digital X-rays only when necessary, with shielding
- We coordinate with your OB when needed
Morning sickness and your enamel
Frequent nausea bathes teeth in stomach acid that softens enamel. Rinse with water or a teaspoon of baking soda in water afterward, and wait about 30 minutes before brushing so you don’t scrub softened enamel away. Small habits like these protect your smile through a demanding season.
